Firstly, let me explain Kindle Vella. Kindle Vella is an online platform (currently) only available in the United States that offers serialized stories - one story in small sections. The sections are, at most, five thousand words. Which really isn't that much. Consider it as if you're reading one chapter of a book at a time. The first three sections ("episodes," Vella calls them, for some reason) of each story are free to read, but after that you have to pay tokens.
You get tokens by purchasing them. Packs of two hundred, five hundred and twenty-five, eleven hundred, and seventeen hundred are available. An episode unlocks for the number of words divided by 100. E.G.: an episode that is four thousand words unlocks for forty tokens. But tokens are cheap - two hundred tokens is only two dollars. Seventeen hundred is fifteen dollars. Writers get paid per story for the money spent to buy tokens you used to unlock them. It's like calculus.
Now that's explained, let me explain my story. Most of the stories on Vella are books cut into episodes. Perfectly reasonable. "Voices in My Head," on the other hand, uses a central idea to build short stories around it. Some of the stories build off each other, some are in multiple parts, but many are stand-alone, as long as you understand the idea.
What's the idea? The idea is Boris St. Jude can hear the voices of coma patients in his head. They can hear what he hears, and see what he sees. He can help them wake up. It's not easy, but he's literally the only person in the world who can do it. It's not all the coma patients - it's anywhere from ten to fifteen at any point. But that's still a lot of voices to listen to.
He has to travel around the country, try to convince people he isn't crazy, help his patients wake up, and so much more.
If this idea interests you, check it out on Vella. It's available on computer and phone! Remember, the first three episodes are free. If you like the episodes, you can say so by hitting the thumb button at the bottom of the story. I appreciate all the support!
